Terms of use

The use of QuantPrime and the QuantPrime public web server (http://www.quantprime.de, http://www.quantprime.com and http://quantprime.mpimp-golm.mpg.de) is granted under the following terms of use:

• Use of primers designed with QuantPrime
  For users with an academic affiliation (performing publicly funded research in publicly funded research institutions and universities) the use is unrestricted, however we ask our users to acknowledge QuantPrime and its authors by citing the paper (citation information is described on the front page) when possible.
  For commercial users (all other users than those described above) we reserve ourselves the right to ask for a fee on a server-load or per-primer basis. To avoid possible license conflicts, please contact us immediately after registering on this website.
  
  
• QuantPrime user accounts
  QuantPrime user accounts are strictly personal and must not be given away to any third party. Any single person may only have one user account. Passwords must be complex enough so that they are impossible to guess, in order to prevent anauthorized access. If abuse (violations to the terms of use, denial-of-service attacks, hacking attempts) connected with the user account is recorded, we will block the account and inform the user via email, if possible. If repeated cases of abuse are recorded, we will remove the account without further notice and prohibit new registration of the same user.
  The QuantPrime primer design service is to be used within reason (our server capacity is limited), and therefore we apply user quotas on the server load. We consider it as abuse if a user tries to circumvent the quotas by using several accounts simultaneously, and we may block the account(s) immediately.
  
  
• Redistribution of primer information
  When primer information is redistributed (through primer databases, websites etc.) its origin must be mentioned - in scientific publications and web services by citing the QuantPrime paper (as described on the front page) - in other cases by linking to this website and providing the information "Designed with QuantPrime". When in doubt, contact us.
  
  
• Linking QuantPrime
  It is allowed to provide links to the website, and we encourage our users to do so. However, we appreciate to get informed about the link, and we require that the information going with the link is correct. Please only provide links to the front page (http://www.quantprime.de or http://quantprime.mpimp-golm.mpg.de) and not any "deep links", as the pages may change. When in doubt, contact us.

• Collection of data
  When registering with this website, we collect some private information about you (see the registration form). We only collect the very necessary information in order to maintain the service and to assign academic or commercial status for the user.
  When users are logging in to the service, we save the origin (IP address) and time of login to be able to track down and prohibit unauthorized use of the user accounts or denial-of-service attacks. Each access to a web page is stored in the web log for statistics purposes.
  When using the primer design service all information entered into the system (project name, transcript identifiers etc.) is saved in the QuantPrime database. The designed primers and the collected specificity information is also saved into the system. The background service performing primer design and specificity searches is logged so that problems or bugs can be detected quickly. At times extensive debug logs might be used to track down the origin of sotware problems.
  
  
• Use, redistribution and removal of collected data
  The use of the collected data is strictly limited to the minimum necessary to maintain a high quality level of the service. This includes the aggregation of anonymized data for statistical evaluation of the use of the service (e.g. web page access statistics, organism and annotation popularity, user counts).
  Under no circumstance we forward personal or project information (gene lists, project names) to a third party (including ourselves, outside the strictly necessary for maintenance of operations) without the explicit consent of the user. However, we reserve ourselves the right forward primer data to third parties (typically bulk uploads to primer databases) after anonymization (removal of project and personal information). In such cases we will inform the user.
  If the user wishes so, we can delete the information directly related to his user account (the account itself, projects, gene lists, primers etc.) - just contact us. In some cases we may need to regularly clean up old project and primer data (generally older than three months). We therefore recommend our users to download all primer information they need for their records.
  
  
• Data security
  Data security is very important to use, and therefore we take utmost care that the server security is not compromised. In the unlikely case of a security compromise we must however refer to the disclaimer above and will not assume any responsability (finanicial or otherwise) of the consequences. In case the compromise is known to us, we will inform our users as quickly and detailed as possible.
